Dolunay: Contemporary Ottoman & Balkan Music

November 11, 2016 at 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Dolunay visits the Denmark Arts Center from Brooklyn, NY on Friday November 11. The trio Dolunay, which is Turkish for "full moon," draws upon the songs of the Turkish people living across Rumeli, the former region of the Ottoman Balkans. Dolunay textures their intimate sound and traditional tunes with influences from the Blues, providing their unique urban twist to Turkish classical music.

Returning favorites, Michael Harrist and Tev Stevig of Boston, open the show with traditional makam and modal music played on instruments such as the tanbur, saz and oud, as well as the upright bass and guitar.

Tickets are a suggested donation of $15 and can be purchased online, at the door or by calling 207-452-2412. The Denmark Arts Center never turns away patrons unable to pay.
