Led by internationally renowned klezmer Joshua Horowitz. Josh will build up a repertoire of easy-to-learn rare tunes in the old style from the ground up. Students will learn how to finesse three traditional group accompaniment styles (Terkisher, Duevo, and Hora Lunga) and will learn ornamentation, melodic variation, fills and bass lines. He’ll tackle techniques for on-the-spot arranging, teach secrets for creating and maintaining energy, and develop bandstand communication techniques. Students will learn useful ways of practicing based on Josh’s gentle and methodical ear training and will receive notation of all tunes following the class.
No klezmer experience needed! Bring mute if you are a brass player, and recording device if you like.
