The 16th Annual KlezmerQuerque is a three-day festival featuring ‘klezmer’ dance and music which is rooted in the traditional wedding rituals of the Jews of Eastern Europe. KlezmerQuerque is co-produced by Congregation Nahalat Shalom, the 22-piece Nahalat Shalom Community Klezmer Band and the dance troupe Rikud. The festival presents a wide variety of events for all ages, abilities and budgets including a free children’s event, concerts, dance parties, lecture-presentations, and “hands-on” workshops in music and dance. Three special guest artists known for their expertise in klezmer music, scholarship and dance will be featured at all events throughout the weekend. The Grammy and Emmy award-winning founder of the klezmer revival Henry Sapoznik will be featured in performances and lecture-presentations. Klezmer clarinet virtuoso Margot Leverett will be featured in performances and workshops. Avia Moore - dance leader, teacher, and choreographer from Toronto, Canada - will be leading dances at the parties and teaching workshops. KlezmerQuerque will also feature music and dance by several local klezmer bands, dancers and soloists including: The Nahalat Shalom Community Klezmer Band, Rikud Yiddish dance troupe, The Rebbe’s Orkestra-klezmer & Judaic Band, Alavados ensemble, di Kavene Kapelye, and Beth Cohen.
Event prices range from free to $20 and an all-event early-bird discount of $75 for seniors/students and $85 for general admission. The early-bird discount ends Thursday, February 8th at 11:59PM after which the senior/student all-event price is $90 and general is $95.
