Maclovia Quintana was born and raised in Santa Fe, NM, where she was surrounded by music from an early age. She has been performing Balkan music since college, when she joined the Yale Women’s Slavic Chorus, a group she sang with for 10 years. She studied doumbek with Polly Tapia Ferber in Santa Fe, and has studied with Faisal Zedan in the Bay Area. In 2012, she co-founded the Balkan band Orkestar BAM, in which she was singer and percussionist. Orkestar BAM played in New Haven and the greater New York City area for five years. Maclovia lives in Oakland, where she sings with Kitka Women’s Vocal Ensemble.
