Ways to Support the EEFC

Six Ways to Build Our Community

  • Annual fundraiser. Always participate in our annual fundraiser. Annual donations make camps and online programs possible. Every gift counts, and we need you!
  • Elevate the Auction. Donate the most inspiring items, services, and experiences you can think of to our camp auctions, and bid generously.
  • Qualified Charitable Distributions and Required Minimum Distributions. Giving from your retirement fund can bring you tax savings. The EEFC is eligible to receive Qualified Charitable Distributions from your IRA.
  • Bequests. Naming the EEFC as a beneficiary through a bequest or other planned gift helps you leave a lasting mark on our future.
  • Vehicle Donation. A hassle-free process turns your old car into a gift to the EEFC and a tax deduction for you.
  • Tell Your Friends! Bring them to camp! Share emails and social media posts, and grow the circle sharing in the joy and learning that is the EEFC!

IRA Gifts: A Win/Win

Giving from your retirement fund can bring you tax savings. If you own an Individual Retirement Account, sooner or later you will face the fact that payouts from most IRAs are subject to income taxes. You may wish to consider a couple of tax-smart charitable options as you support the EEFC community.

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)/IRA Rollover. At age 70 ½ you are eligible to benefit the EEFC and other qualified charities while receiving tax benefits in return through an IRA rollover. To arrange for QCD, instruct your IRA administrator to send funds directly from your IRA to one or more charities (up to $105,000 per year, or $210,000 for married couples filing jointly). You do not pay income taxes on the money you give. If you are in your seventies and want to make a gift, this may be a smart way to do so.

Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs). At age 73, the IRS requires IRA holders to take annual income withdrawals or else possibly face penalties. Because those distributions are subject to ordinary income tax, they may lead some owners into a higher tax bracket or affect Medicare premiums and Social Security payments. By donating directly to the EEFC through a Qualified Charitable Distribution you can satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution tax free.

Some benefits

  • Avoiding income tax. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction. So, you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions.
  • Reducing your annual income level may help lower your tax bracket and Medicare premiums and decrease your Social Security tax.

    Next steps
  • Contact office@eefc.org to discuss an IRA gift.
  • Consult with your financial or legal advisor.
  • Ask your IRA administrator to send payment directly to the EEFC, either right from your account or via check. Note: The funds must go directly to the EEFC to remain tax free.

    Bequests

Bequest gifts to the EEFC are an easy way to make a lasting impact on the future of our community. Someday a dance line will form, an instrument will be picked up, or a voice will lift in song because of what you do today. If you have already included a bequest for the EEFC in your estate plan, please contact us—we’d love to thank you. If you’re considering a bequest, let us help you think it through.

    Why make a bequest?

    • They’re personal. Bequests create a lasting and personal legacy for yourself or a loved one.
    •

    • They’re flexible. Bequests cost you nothing now and can be changed at any time, so you can always take care of your loved ones first.
    •

    • They’re smart. Your bequest may make you eligible for an estate tax charitable deduction, which can reduce the tax burden on your family.

    How do I begin?

Contact Development Committee member Jerry Kisslinger by email or by phone (347-205-1905) to discuss your ideas. We’d love to work with you and your attorney to design a gift that best matches your interests with the EEFC mission. Please be in touch if you have any questions about how to start your journey.

    • Work with your experts. This page provides only general gift, estate, and financial planning information. It is not intended as legal, accounting, or other professional advice. Donors should always consult their tax and financial advisors for specific recommendations and planning services. Consult an attorney if your plans may require the revision of a will or related document.
    •

    • When you create a bequest: please consider making an unrestricted gift that provides the EEFC with the most flexibility for the future. If you do choose to designate a specific purpose for the gift, please consider including a provision that enables the EEFC to use your gift in other ways related in spirit should it no longer be possible to use your gift as originally intended.

Please note: Due to the small size of our organization and limited staffing, we cannot accept gifts of real estate or personal property at this time.
