Aleksandar Jovevski

Macedonian Kaval; Macedonian Tambura

Aleksandar Jovevski graduated from the Skopje-based State Music and Ballet School “Ilija Nikolovski Luj, and received a degree in music from the University of Skopje. He is the leader of the band Monistra, which he founded in 2002. Monistra, which has performed all over Europe, is devoted to Macedonian folk “ethno” music played on traditional instruments. Their repertoire is enriched with modern arrangements, which broadens its appeal among younger listeners. Aleksandar is also a composer, arranger and musical guest collaborator, including for guitarist Petar Rendžov, the Tavitijan Brothers, the singer Elena Andonovska, the Croatian band Afion, and others. He performs regularly with the Tanec ensemble, and teaches a group of young students ranging from 9 to 14 years old.
