Dan Auvil

Tupan/Daouli

It was love at first sight when Dan first saw (and heard!) the large, two-headed drum called the tupan/daouli. That was almost 50 years ago…and he’s been playing Balkan percussion ever since.

He has toured and taught internationally, and was a founding member of the bands Édessa, Ziyiá, and Trio Zulum. He currently is a member of Janam.

Dan’s teaching will span from the three B’s (basic Balkan beats) to the three R’s (rockin’ Romani riffs).
