Hilary Musaji & Eva Salina

Balkan Group Singing for Youth

Hilary Musaji and Eva Salina are extremely excited to co-lead Balkan Group Singing for youth campers! We will travel around the Balkans through songs, exploring the sounds and textures of language and harmony from cultures throughout the region. This class will provide young campers with a great way to build an embodied foundational knowledge of language, melody, and rhythm: essential building blocks of vocal technique that are also invaluable skills for Balkan dance and instrumental music! Hilary and Eva are both lifelong singers and enthusiastic moms of young Balkan campers. Singers 5 and up are welcome to attend on their own (younger singers must have a parent or guardian present). All parents and guardians are welcome and encouraged to attend, with the goal of more harmony singing within families throughout the year.

The instructors:
Hilary Musaji: Hilary has been a lifelong group singer, including Mozaik Voices 2014-2020, Zabava! 2019-2022, Polynya 2023-2025, Calizvornio 2023-2025. She has also worked as a preschool teacher assistant at Santa Cruz Waldorf Preschool (2011-2012), an elementary classroom aide at Happy Valley Elementary (2012-2013), and is currently a practicing licensed acupuncturist in Oakland, CA.

Eva Salina: Eva attended her first Balkan camp in 1992, and started teaching for the EEFC in 2003. Eva has been leading community choruses for over 10 years in NY State, where she lives, and established and led a children’s singing class at Mendocino for a number of years. She is a dedicated performer and teacher with a lifelong commitment to Balkan music and cultural traditions.
