Sophia Metropoulos

Greek Singing, Greek Folk Guitar

Sophia Metropoulos is a musician and vocalist specializing in Greek folk music, with a focus on traditional songs from the Cyclades, Dodecanese, and mainland Greece. Active since 2014, she performs on laouto and guitar and includes Rebetiko in her regular repertoire. She has brought regional vocal traditions to audiences across the United States, with an emphasis on ornamentation, phrasing, and stylistic authenticity.

Sophia will teach one singing class on Songs of the Cyclades: Naxos & Paros. This course will focus on ornamentation, vocal styling, and traditional rhythms from the Cycladic islands, emphasizing performance practice and regional expression.

Sophia will join her brother Izaki to present a second class in The Folk Guitar in Laïkó: Rhythm, Repertoire, and Accompaniment, a hands-on course centered on the use of the laïkí kithára (folk guitar) in Greek popular music, including Laïkó and Rebetiko traditions. Focus will be on rhythm, accompaniment techniques, and stylistic nuance. Other string instruments are welcome to participate.
