Klezmer Workshop & Jam April 2017, led by Cookie Segelstein

April 30, 2017 at 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

KlezCalifornia presents our next monthly klezmer workshop and jam, led by internationally renowned klezmer violinist Cookie Segelstein. Includes learning tunes by ear with authentic klezmer style. Participants of all ages welcome, on all acoustic instruments. Must be at least intermediate level on your instrument. No klezmer experience needed, but it doesn't hurt! Sound files will be provided before and sheet music (when available) after the session. The tunes will be learned in a call and response way with an emphasis on style and ornaments, melodic variation and accompaniment tricks. Jamming will be part of the class, in a learning atmosphere. Audio recording devices encouraged!

Registration: $25 sliding scale, for participants; pay on site with cash or check. Refreshments included. Listeners welcome, too; donation requested. Rsvp to: 415.789.7679, jams[at]klezcalifornia.org, klezcalifornia.org/events/jams. Since KlezCalifornia runs monthly workshops & jams in different cities, specify which event (date/location), your name, instrument, and any questions. Or just show up!

Events in May:
Sunday, May 7, 2:00-5:00pm, taught by Cookie Segelstein. At a private home in PALO ALTO.
Sunday, May 21, 2:00-5:00pm, taught by Dave Rosenfeld. At Art House Gallery, BERKELEY.
