Balkan Workshop at KlezCalifornia Yiddish Culture Festival

November 7, 2015 at 8:00 pm – November 8, 2015 at 7:00 pm

Eighteen participatory workshops on Sunday, Nov. 8, including Balkan/Klezmer Roots and Connections, with Dan Cantrell: Learn about shared rhythms, scales and stylistic qualities by analyzing and performing tunes from Balkan, klezmer, and Romani traditions. Spice up your klezmer sound with some fun regional ornamentation! Learn some tricks and tools to make your currently material more dynamic, while jamming on some great new songs! Other workshops likely to be of interest: Line-Spinning - How to Create Melodic Variations from Almost Nothing, with Joshua Horowitz. Learning to Transcribe and Play Insanely Difficult Music from Recordings, with Stephen Saxon.
